Style on a Sunday: Cat obsessed

My dress has cats on it.

It's a pretty good dress, right? I think when I first saw it on the Warehouse website it was £40 but I managed to pick it up for £25! What a bargain, when I would have paid the original price if I'd had the money to spare.

I wore this to lunch with my mum, dad and nana, who are currently up in Yorkshire on holiday to check out the area before they hopefully start to think about moving up here next year. 

Also, following the news from a couple of weeks ago that I passed my driving test (woop!), I have now also been promoted at work - yay! It's been a tough first 4 months of the year, but now I think the rest of the year is going to be awesome. 

Finally, yesterday we ordered the Entertainment Extra package on our Sky so we have all the music channels, so while I'm typing this Ryan is flicking through all the shiny channels and I'm singing along to Justin Timberlake, my Saturday nights are pure rock and roll.

Style on a Sunday: Shopping Special

Yesterday, for the first time in what feels like a million years, I went shopping in Leeds and actually had a little bit of money to spend. I hit H&M for some autumn/winter basics and popped into Next for a bit of a treat, where I received a £10 off online voucher (I came home and promptly spent it...). Here's what I bought:

Style on a Sunday: Doing My Chores

This weekend has been a weekend of chores, which included trips to Ikea, the White Rose Centre and Asda on a busy and hot Saturday. It wasn't exactly fun, but this is what I wore:

These jeans were found in my parents' loft when I went home this week to sort out the boxes of stuff I have left in London since I moved to Leeds last year. They fit me perfectly and apart from a little hole in the bottom of one leg they are in perfect condition. I can't for the life of me remember why I stopped wearing them: it was a good little discovery.

As I'm sure you can tell I went for comfort over haute couture yesterday but added a bit of glam with my new VIPXO ring, which is definitely my go-to glamorous but easy-to-wear item.

How do you make your weekend chores a bit more glamorous? Or do you just give up and wear jogging bottoms and an old t shirt?

Style on a Sunday: A Fashionable Night In

This is a typical outfit for a night in with friends, I go for comfort while still feeling pretty with something to keep me warm when the house gets chilly at about 10pm.

This dress is great for just throwing on at a weekend, but can also be worn for work (even though I have issues with mixing my work and weekend wardrobes) and yesterday I thought I'd team it with this classic shirt which my dad gave to me a few years ago. I remember I wore it to college (so 5 years ago now!) and people looked at me like I was crazy. Now denim shirts are worn everywhere by everyone and rightly so, fashion is funny like that. I would like a denim shirt this colour that I could button up, but considering this is a man's shirt and apparently my dad used to be very skinny that is never going to happen with this one.

What do you like to wear on a night in? Do you have any pieces from your parents which you make work even if they don't fit(!)?

P.S I know I'm not wearing shoes, but I never wear shoes in the house, so thought it would be silly to include them in an outfit post. Although the floor on our driveway was a bit chilly - brrr. 

Style on a Sunday: Summer Fashion in Winter Weather

The little village outside of Leeds which I call home can't be the only place where summer has arrived for all of about two days and disappeared, so I'm assuming everyone is having the same problem with style at the moment?! I have absolutely no idea what to wear in this weather so I seem to be reaching for old favourites from the colder months mixed with a few summer additions:

My mum was having a wardrobe clearout a few months ago and offered me this denim jacket, I'd been looking for a cheap one anyway, so it was perfect timing! It's really comfy and a good length on me (I think) but I kind of want to rough it up a bit, so I'm going to have a look around for some distressed denim tutorials - I am no designer so I need all the help I can get so I don't ruin it - any tips?

I added white loafers to this predominantly black outfit to try and summer it up a bit, I think it worked, made it a bit more suitable for a July evening at the pub for birthday drinks with Ryan and some friends.

Style on a Sunday: Hair-style

I treated myself to a couple of hairbands in Primark last week and wanted to show them off for you. All were priced at around £2 and I think they're super cute. I'll hopefully be wearing them at Sonisphere as we speak, unless it's boiling hot and I will have bought a hat!

Style on a Sunday: One Pair of Jeans

As I may have previously mentioned on this blog, I'm not a big trouser wearer and I in fact only own one pair of jeans. Some people find this quite shocking, but if those people could take me shopping and find me a pair of jeans which fits and is comfy then that would be much more helpful. Here is an outfit I've worn a couple of times over the past few months (again, apologies for my weird face in this photo - why do I look worried all the time?):

This top has served me well, I think I got it in 2007 and it was a wardrobe staple for me and my Uni housemate (and best friend) Laura, who coincidentally I stole this cardigan from...I hope she's not missing it too much. I'm really not sure about these sandals, everyone told me they were really comfy and so cheap but I can't really walk in them and ended up changing into my Havaianas. 

What do you think of jeans? Where do you buy your favourite pairs? I'd love to hear your advice - I definitely need it! 

Style on a Sunday: To The Ballet

Today my outfit was a homage to ballet fashion, I teamed a cream cardigan with a pleated skirt and ballet pumps, topped it off (excuse the pun) with this coral t shirt from Primark.

Apologies for my slightly odd expression in this photo, it looks like I was angry with Ryan at the time, which I definitely wasn't, and apologies for the awful editing, I was trying to make the colours a bit better and now I just look a bit grainy:

I was a bit scared of teaming the midi skirt with flats but I don't think it looks too bad, I think that it would look better with heels but I didn't feel comfortable enough to wear them . I'd really like to find a sandal with a small heel, you know the ones that look a bit vintage? I am on the hunt for a pair! I liked the whole ballet look though (I actually went to watch Swan Lake, but more on that tomorrow) and the first outing of the midi skirt was a success. I also just want to mention this bag - how awesome is it? My mum got it for me when we visited Brussels, we saw it at the train station and I fell in love - I think it toughens up any outfit a little bit and I'm not too great at being too girly so I think it really sets this outfit off.

What do you think of a midi skirt and flats? Would you try it or do you think they should always be worn with heels? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Style on a Sunday: School Trip

This Saturday Ryan and I caught the train to Bradford to visit the National Media Museum and this is what I wore:

We had such a fun day, I'd really recommend going as there's some really good photography exhibitions on over summer. After a couple of hours we decided to head back to Leeds and go to Wetherspoons for some tea, we both tried the Gourmet Chicken Burger for the first time and were very impressed. Nom nom.

What do you think of this outfit? I'm never sure what I think of trousers, I hardly ever wear anything other than dresses or tops and leggings, so I'm just not sure how to style them!

Style on a Sunday: Festival Fashion

There is now only 5 weeks until me and Ryan head to Knebworth for Sonisphere and due to extreme lack of funds I am unable to really buy any new clothes for the occasion. So, I'm starting to plan now so that I have a vague idea of what I need to pack nearer the time. In my experience it is most important to have simple outfits which can be mixed and matched with accessories/shoes/layers depending on weather. So, here is my first Sonisphere outfit:

Dress: Zara, Shorts: New Look, Belt: ASOS, Socks: Primark, Boots: Hunter, Bag: ASOS, Sunglasses: Claire's Accessories

Here I have my simple outfit of a dress and shorts which I think would be great for a typically muddy but warm festival day. However, if it was a boiling hot day, I'd take away the socks and wellies and add a pair of simple plimsolls (however tempting flip flops may be, I think I'd be in a world of pain if I stood anywhere near the front - poor toesies) like these from H&M:

Or, if it was a really cold day I'd add a plain black hoodie and leggings, and if it was rainy I'd add a thin waterproof jacket. The only thing I'd like to add to this outfit for a hot day is a hat, but I really don't think I suit hats so I never know what style to get!

Style on a Sunday: T.G.I Friday's

So, yesterday Ryan treated me to lunch at T.G.I Friday's in Leeds and this is what I wore for the occasion:

Dress: H&M, Leggings: New Look, Boots: Next, Belt: ASOS, Bag: Matalan

I first saw this dress worn by the lovely Chloe and immediately informed her I would be buying it! It's not really my normal style (stripes and colour are not really present in my wardrobe) but there's just something about it that caught my eye. Chloe teamed hers with some incredible heels (her ability to walk in them every day astounds me!) but due to the threat of rain and walk to and from the train station I chose to wear my trusty black boots. I also wore a black cardigan once I was outside to keep me shielded from the gale force winds!

T.G.I's was absolutely lovely, I haven't been there in ages even though my parents used to take me all the time when I was young, so now I'm all grown up Ryan treated me to an Ultimate Hurricane, which the waitress told me would be a third bigger than a normal one, she did not tell me it would be served in a fish bowl!

 

To eat, we had boneless wings with blue cheese sauce to start, which was so moreish and yummy - boneless wings are my new favourite food, I think. I then had Jack Daniel's chicken and shrimp, which I'd never had before but caught my eye with it's chicken, prawn and cheesy mash combo. I have to say it was really lovely, I don't think I've had cheesy mash that good, ever! Ryan had the Friday's ribs which looked amazing and he even let me take one of his fries, which took me right back to my childhood!
